The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, founded in 1882, is a 183-acre (74 ha) zoo in Cleveland, Ohio. The Zoo is divided into several areas: Australian Adventure, African Savanna, Northern Trek, The Primate, Cat & Aquatics Building, The RainForest and Waterfowl Lake. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has one of the largest collections of primates in North America, and features Monkey Island, where a large population of colobus monkeys are kept in free-range conditions. The Zoo is a part of the Cleveland Metroparks system. In June 1956, Cleveland imported from Africa its first gorillas. They were a male and two females called Eseka, Yogi and Bengbis. At the time, no gorillas were born at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
