Hamamatsu Zoo is a zoological park located in the lake of Hamana with an amazing natural enviroment. They are home to more than 100 different species, of which a lot of them are primates, having one of the biggest collections of this kind of animals in Japan. It has also an important garden that can be observed on the ways of the zoo. Their first gorillas arrived in December 1981 from Shirahama Zoo. They were a four years old couple named Shou and Daiko. They never got to breed, and the female, Daiko, died saddly at the age of 31 years old in April 2008. Since then, Shou remains alone.
