Port Lympne Wild Animal Park is located near the town of Hythe in Kent and was purchased in 1973 by John Aspinall to solve lack of space at Howletts Wild Animal Park. It was opened to the public in 1976 and since 1984 the animal park has been owned by the charity The John Aspinall Foundation. It has an area of 2,4 km2 where they keep african elephants, malayan tapirs, Grants zebra, snow leopard...their first gorillas were a group of three females-two males that arrived from Howletts in March 1991. One of those females, Kabinda, was already pregnant when arrived to Port Lympne and gave birth three months later to the first baby gorilla of the zoo, but it died some days after birth.
