Twycross Zoo is a 32 hectares zoo near the village of Twycross, in Leicestershire. The zoo claims the largest collections of monkeys and apes in the World, and in 2006 re-launched itself as "Twycross Zoo, The World Primate Centre". The zoo was founded in 1963 and holds currently a collection of more than 1000 animals of about 200 different species including reptils, penguins, patagonian sea lions, giraffes or camels between many others. It is currently the only zoo in the UK keeping all the four great apes, including the only breeding group of the country of bonobos. Joe Lumumba, a two years old male gorilla was the first gorilla of the park there in July 1965. In June 1985, Twycross saw its first baby gorilla, Asanti (still at the park), born to parents Eva* and Mamfe*.
