Inaugurated on September 24th 1892 with an area of 13 hectares, Zoo de Barcelona is placed in the center of the city and is home to 300 different species and 2200 animals. Barcelona Zoo is member of EAZA or AIZA, participates in some European Breeding Programs and they have some weird species such as komodo dragons or drills. They kept the only albino gorilla known worldwide, Copito de Nieve, who died back in 2003 at an old age and they had two cases of twins: in 1981, when Bimvili gave birth to Ela and Kena, and in 2004, when Kena gave birth to Kiri and Kera. Their first gorillas arrived in 1961 from Guinea, they were two males and a female called Jackie, Yeti and Yuma and their first baby gorilla was born to Ndengue in April 1973.

Barcelona Zoo keeps two reproductive (family) groups and thus, two outdoor and visible enclosures. Both them are provided with a lot of hammocks, wooden platforms and ropes to stimulate their climbing abilities. On the enclosure of Ebobo's group, there is a small covered yard connected with the outdoor area through two gates. A total of five non-visible indoor bedrooms are provided for Ebobo and his group and four for Xebo and his troop. Both gorilla groups may be exchanged between both enclosures through the indoor bedrooms.
