Located in Saint-Aignan (Loir-et-Cher), Zooparc de Beauval opened its doors to the public in 1980 and is home to 4600 animals of 400 different species, including some unique species in France such as okapis (2005), koalas (2002), manatees (1997) or their last acquisition in 2012, a couple of panda bears. Bukavu and Yangu (males) were the first gorillas to arrive to Beauval in April 1997 from Wuppertal, but through the same year, Inge and Sheila arrived to join the two males. The first gorilla to born at the park was Khala, daugther of Kabinda and Asato, and who was born in June 2007; ten years after the arrival of the first gorillas.

The space for gorillas was built in 1997 inside of the tropical area and consists two outdoor islands, which is home to gorillas, patas and brazza monkeys.
